Police arrest man for shooting dead a cash collection agent


Three days after a 53-year-old was shot and robbed in the Friends colony area in GTB enclave, police have detained a man for his alleged involvement in the case, officials said.

The victim, Dinesh Kumar, used to collect cash for Mukesh Agrawal, a scrap dealer, they said.

According to police, a call regarding the incident was received around 8 pm on Friday. Kumar had gone to collect money from one Pradyuman Singh in the Friends Colony area. Kumar was riding his scooter when two men tried to snatch his bag, they said. When he resisted, the accused opened fire at him and fled the spot, they added.

Police said footage from around 100 cameras around the area was scanned through and the suspects’ movements were tracked, directing the police to the Shastri Park area.

In the clips, the two men can be seen running. Police combined the footage from different routes to track the accused down. From Shastri Park, they detained one suspect who matched the image of the man visible in the clips, officials said.
The suspect has not been cooperating in the probe, according to the cops.

Police are analysing dump data – the active mobile phones in an area – to ascertain the identity of the accused. So far, police have found that the men used public transport.

An official said the accused men used an e-rickshaw to travel to the location.

Meanwhile, police haven’t made a breakthrough in connection with the robbery of Rs 55.5 lakh in which two men, who were transporting money a scrap dealer’s money, were robbed at gunpoint.
