To maintain law and order in the city during the upcoming Dussehra rallies, Durga immersion and ICC World Cup match, Mumbai police will deploy over 15,000 police personnel in the city.
The massive deployment of police officials will ensure proper managements of a range of events coinciding with each other. Police personnel will be deployed at the venues of Dussehra rallies of Shiv Sena groups as well. The ruling Shiv Sena and its rival group led by former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray will organise rallies on Dussehra at Azad Maida, South Mumbai and Shivaji Park, Central Mumbai.
The two-high profile rallies will see a high participation of party workers, volunteers and common people, police official told PTI. Another major event is set to take place in the city on Tuesday. The World Cup match between South Africa and Bangladesh will be held on the day at Wankhede Stadium. Other than Dussehra rallies and World Cup match, the big challenge to maintain peace would be during Durga idol immersion that will mark the closure of the grand Navratri celebration.
Durga idol immersion will also keep cops busy with crowd management duties. People in large numbers throng at the festival to bid adieu to Goddess Durga. For better crowd management, police will be deployed at all prominent places, the official said.
As many as 12,449 lower-rank personnel, 2,496 officers, 45 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 16 Deputy Commissioners and half a dozen Additional Commissioners of the city force are being deployed across the financial capital, official told PTI.
Along with Mumbai police personnel, 33 State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) platoons (consisting of 100 personnel each), Quick Response Teams and Home Guards are also being mobilised for duty at multiple events in the metro city.
