By April 2024, the Yellow Line of Namma Metro from R V Road to Bommasandra (19 km) and the extended Green line on Tumakuru Road from Nagasandra to Madavara (3 km) will be opened for commercial operations. The Yellow line connects one of the major IT corridors in the city, Electronic City.
The Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made the announcement while participating in the virtual inauguration of two stretches of Namma Metro from K R Pura to Byappanahalli and Kengeri to Challaghatta on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the stretches along with flagging of Delhi – Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor in Ghaziabad.
Both stretches of purple were opened to the public on October 9 after public pressure. This is for the first time in the history of Namma Metro, new stretches being unveiled after the starting of the commercial operations. The total length of the two stretches is 4 km.
In his speech, Siddaramaiah requested the Central Government to provide immediate approval for the Phase III of the Namma Metro project. The State Government had submitted the detailed project report (DPR) for taking up Kempapura- J P Nagar 4 th phase and Hosahalli – Kadabagere line under phase III to the central government. The total length of the two lines is 45 km and projects cost Rs 15,611 crore.
The DPR is under preparation for Phase-3A of the Bangalore Metro Rail project from Sarjapur to Hebbal for length of 37 Kms
Ridership will touch 20 lakh by 2026
The Chief Minister said that the Pink line (from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara) under the phase II of the Namam Metro project will opened by March 2025 and ORR- Airport line from Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) via K R Pura, Nagawara and Hebbal will be opened by 2026. “With the opening of these lines, the ridership of Namma Metro will touch the 20 lakh mark,” said the CM. At present, the Namma Metro has an operational network of 74 km and per day more than 7 lakh passengers are using the services.
