Sri Lanka will begin its first phase of qualifying for the 2023 50-over World Cup when the team gets down to business on Monday with a match against the United Emirates in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Sri Lanka will also have matches against Oman for the first time in an ODI encounter on June 23, followed by games against Ireland (June 25) and Scotland on June 27.
West Indies, Nepal, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe and the USA are the other teams in the fray contesting in another group.
Sri Lanka in all probability will have to play against the Netherlands, West Indies and Zimbabwe in what is called a Super Six stage and the top two teams from the six will qualify for the last two remaining slots of the World Cup 2023 scheduled to be held in India in October and November.
Australia, England, India, South Africa, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Afghanistan and Pakistan have already qualified directly.
Sri Lanka have appeared in every ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup but failed to reach the knockout stages in the first five editions of the tournament.
